Frequently Asked Questions

Where is your office?

Our office is near downtown Santa Cruz, directly behind Branciforte Plaza: 573 Soquel Avenue, Santa Cruz, CA 95062. We also offer virtual services to anyone in California.

What are your hours?
Hours are determined by each therapist’s availability.
How long are your sessions?
Sessions are typically 50 minutes, but we offer longer sessions when requested. Sometimes clients request a shorter between-session check-in as well. It’s all about what you need!
Do you accept my insurance?
We are out-of-network providers, and a superbill will be generated for you the first week of every month. You can send superbills to your insurance company as proof that you received services from an out-of-network provider. Most insurance companies reimburse clients for a portion of session fees.
How do I set up an appointment?

Email info@sctcollective.com or call (831) 302-2323 to schedule a free, 15-minute consultation.

What is your cancellation policy?
To avoid being charged for your session, please provide a cancellation notice at least 24 hours prior to your appointment. This gives us an opportunity to offer the session time to another client.
What age ranges do you work with?
Each therapist at Santa Cruz Therapy Collective has a different focus. Call us to learn more about which therapist is the best fit for you.
Do you work with women, men, or couples?
We welcome clients of all genders, and we also work with couples.
What do you actually do in sessions with clients?

You’ll find SCTC therapists to be compassionate, collaborative, and well-trained. We begin treatment with an assessment that includes gathering information about your history and current experiences. From there, we collaborate with you to form goals that best represent your vision for change. We meet weekly to work on those goals, exploring meaningful experiences, trying research-based techniques for symptom relief, and developing a comprehensive narrative that leads to a stronger sense of self.

Do you offer gender-affirming services?

At SCTC, we offer gender-affirming services and welcome LGBTQ+ clients to our practice. These services are not to be confused with “gender-exploratory therapy,” which might be presented as a harmless exploration of one’s gender identity, but in reality, is a deceptive repackaging of conversion therapy. The therapists at SCTC will never try to “cure” or “repair” a person’s sexual attraction, gender identity, or expression.

Do your clients receive assignments between sessions?
In general, we don’t rely heavily on between-session assignments. That said, some clients prefer ongoing work, and in those cases, activities can be customized to your goals. Examples include journal writing, scheduling screen-free time alone, and breathing exercises to decrease anxiety. This depends largely on your goals and preferences.
What modalities do you use? What’s your professional training and experience?

We have different specialty areas – you can read more on our About pages.
